Making my apartment comfy
How the right temperature and humidity can make or break your space.
Have you ever felt super comfortable in someone else’s home — a place that’s tidy, smells great, and is beautifully decorated? Or maybe in a stylish, cozy hotel room? Well, let me tell you: it’s not just about the looks, the cleanliness, or even the scent.
Almost no one talks about the humidity/temperature combo — but these two factors play a huge role in how comfortable you feel in your own home.I live in Chicago, but no matter where you are, there’s an ideal range to keep in mind. For better sleep and overall comfort, indoor humidity should stay between 30% and 50%, and should never go over 60%. As for temperature, it’s generally recommended to keep it around 65°F (18°C) — especially at night.
But to get this right, you first need to know your current humidity and temperature levels.
My Pick: The Govee Smart Thermo-Hygrometer

Humidity and temperature smart digital meter by Govee.
I got this little guy to help me keep an eye on my apartment’s climate and make sure I get quality sleep — whether it’s at night or during a quick power nap. It’s the Govee H5177, a smart thermo-hygrometer that runs on three AAA batteries. It cost me only $8. You can connect it to your phone via Bluetooth and monitor both temperature and humidity using the Govee app.
Some great tech that can help you manage humidity includes a humidifier — if your home feels too dry — and a dehumidifier if it’s a bit too humid. If you have a smart or programmable thermostat, heater, or A/C unit, using a device like this can help you dial in your ideal settings and get the most out of your setup.
Of course, the numbers above are just general recommendations — everyone has their own sweet spot. So feel free to tweak these settings to match what makes you feel good!
